Exchange Programs

The School of Architecture is participating in two exchange programs that enable MArch students from Dalhousie to study for a semester at another architecture school while students from the other school study at Dalhousie.

Fachhochschule Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf, Germany
[not offered in 2012]

Destination: Peter Behrens School of Architecture, FH Düsseldorf
Purpose for outbound Dalhousie students: To broaden one's design methods and practices; to learn about European architectural culture; to experience living in a large German city near many significant works of architecture.
Faculty coordinators: Catherine Venart (Dalhousie), Pablo Molestina (PBSA).
Eligible students: M2.
Places available each year: 6.
Duration: Late September to early February (fall semester at Dalhousie; winter semester in Germany), preceded by an optional two-week German language course starting in mid-September.
Language requirement: Some knowledge of German is beneficial but not required.
Registration: With a letter of permission from Dalhousie, you register for three courses at FH Düsseldorf that are equivalent to Year 5 core courses in design, humanities, and technology. Your elective may be a fourth Düsseldorf course; or you may register at Dalhousie for a course taught by Catherine Venart but completed in Europe.
Fees and expenses: You pay tuition fees to Dalhousie. To FH Düsseldorf you pay incidental fees and health insurance (unless you have equivalent health insurance that is valid in Germany). You pay for your travel, accommodation, and living expenses.
Travel requirements: passport, student visa.
Information meeting: May. A copy of the exchange agreement and a summary of exchange procedures will be provided.
Application requirements: reduced design portfolio, letter of intent.
Application deadline: May.
