Cities and Environment Unit

The Cities and Environment Unit has been in operation since September 1993. Our aim is to assist urban and rural communities develop strategies and designs that address local challenges and opportunities. This is achieved through practical research that is specific to the local context, but informed by a global view.

Work conducted by the Unit is project-based and focused on community development. Projects include physical, social, and economic strategies to improve the community and build its capacity to develop and act on local solutions.

The Unit provides a link between planning practice and education, and seeks to provide direct involvement of Dalhousie students through work terms, volunteer projects, and directed studies supervision.

For more information about the unit, our publications, current projects, and the people involved, please visit the Cities and Environment web pages.
