School of Planning
Research Activities
The School of Planning encourages a wide range of research among faculty and students. Many faculty research projects present opportunities for students: either as research assistants, work term placements, or as inspiration for independent student projects. Links from this page will take you to graduate thesis abstracts, selected student projects, and to the proceedings for past School of Planning conferences.
Within the Faculty is a research institute, the Cities and Environment Unit. CEU provides a service function, helping the School serve the needs of the community for affordable help with planning and design projects. Professor Frank Palermo manages the unit which employs several graduates of the School and some current students. Visit the CEU site to discover more about the unit.
Several research projects are currently underway in the School, including:
- First Nations community planning
- Oceans and governance in Southeast Asia
- Social dynamics of economic performance:
Innovation and creativity in city-regions
- Planning in Theory and Practice
- Environmental diagnostics: built environment and health
- Urban ecology: food in the city
- Cultural uses of urban wetlands
- Smart growth and land policy
